Its pedigree starts on the race track, where it garnered more victories than any other car in Grand Prix history. It made the transition from the track to the road with predictable style. It was the fastest sports car of its day. And its performance was matched only by its stunning good looks. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was introduced as a coupe in 1952 at the Mille Miglia. The initials SL stood for Sport-Leicht. And if the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was not completely light by road vehicle standards, it was by racing standards and it was certainly super. And when you combine sport and light the result is speed and the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL proved time and again that it was fast. It took two more years before the 300 SL was available to the public, but in those two years its reputation grew enormously. In March 1957, the 300 SL Roadster was introduced at the Geneva Show and was put into regular production in May of that year. This elegantly sporty car was heavier than the coupe which worked to provide better handling, and which was also enhanced by an improved low-pivot rear axle. It featured a revised spaceframe which permitted the use of standard doors rather than the "gullwing" doors of the coupe and had a lower door line built closer to the ground which made getting in and out easier. The roadster boasted a "sport" camshaft and the 45Β°-slanted engine provided an impressive 215 horse-power. While the coupe seemed to attract much of the attention due in part to the ultra-modern gullwing doors - critics feel that overall the roadster was a superior sportscar. Indeed, in terms of overall production, the roadster outsold the coupe by nearly 460 units (1858 roadsters from 1957 to 1963 vs. 1400 coupes from 1954 to 1957. Now, The 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster is re-created in a precision-engineered 1:24 scale replica, crafted by Franklin Mint Precision Models and officially authorised by the Daimler-Benz AG. From the sporty red finish to the fuel-injected 2996 cc. engine... from the opulent interior to the specially-fitted luggage in the boot, your authentic 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster is certain to be a showpiece that you will admire for many years to come. π¦+π¦+π¦=π Combined shipping is available for all items (even if youβre not in the UK).
