1841 RARE Antique Book of Archery by Geo Agar Hansard Engraved Plates

Written by George Agar Hansard, Gwent Bowman, the book was published in 1841 by Henry G. Bohn, York Street, Covent Garden. The book is beautifully illustrated with 15 engravings on plates. Most plates have the original protective tissue with the exception of the frontispiece and title page. Plates are Portrait of Her Majesty in Archery Costume, Robin Hood and Maid Marian, Death of Robin Hood, Henry VIII, Feud of Elland, Oriental Famale Archery, Persian Archers, The Tartar Maid, Queen Elizabeth Shooting a Buck in Cowderay Park, The Bow of Peace and War, Y Paun Bach, Death of William Rufus, Callum Dhu, Edith of the Swan Neck Discovering the Body of Harold after the Battle of Hstings, and Ulysses Destroying his Wife's Suitors. Chapters: Juvenile Bowman, Equipment of the Young Archer, Female Archery, Welch Archery, French Archery, The Crossbow, Societies of Modern Archer, Yew Trees - Yew Bows, The Shaft, Roving or Rural Archery, Greek & Roman Archery.This book is in very good condition for age. The cover has little wear at the corners and the hinges are intact. The front design has retained the gilt. The spine cover is faded and a small section (about 1 inch by 1/2 inch) was re-glued as shown. The front inner hinge is lightly cracked, mostly intact. The rear inner hinge is cracked. The webbing is holding the hinge. The binding is tight. The pages are in very good condition. There is significant foxing on the frontispiece and picture title page. Otherwise, the pages have only occasional foxing and slight yellowing. This book is about 9 inches by 6 inches and 1 5/8 inches thick.
