Description: For sale is this handbill for a 1904 production of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at the Harmeling Theatre in Bristol, Virginia and it's sister city of Bristol, Tennessee. It was under the direction of William Morris. I'm assuming that is the namesake of the William Morris Agency? If so, his real name was Zelman Moses. Staring in the lead dual role of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is Chas. R. Phipps. Charles R. Phipps was born in Fenton, Michigan, in 1877. He would go on to act in three movies (according the IMDB.) Last Alarm (1940), Secret Evidence (1941), and Thundering Hoofs (1942.) I'm aware of Chas Phipps from Fenton as he performed early on with the Richard Henderson Stock Company, and was a personal friend of Richard Henderson from Mason, Michigan. I think Phipps father might have been a photographer back in Fenton as I think I have a cabinet card from Phipps in Fenton. There is a lot of history here! Other actors in the play include: Franklyn Melville, George Melrose, William Hunt, George Melrose, Maize Lawrence, and Baby Lucille! This handbill measures 5" by 7 3/4". I assume that the paper's color has darkened considerable over the past 120 years. The paper is dry, but not brittle. There are a couple little chips to the edges. The top left corner is cut funky, but I think that is original to the handbill. This will be shipped in a rigid mailer. Please note that the red marks in the pictures are only in the digital image, not on the actual you will receive. Thank you, Kevin
