The coin depicts the Aswan High Dam with the Nile flowing and the sun rising behind the structure and commemorates the fact that on May 15, 1964 the dam structure resulted in the diversion of the flow of the Nile River, a major historic feat in Egypt. The coin is labeled (Al Gomhouriah al-Arabiah al-Mutahida) United Arab Republic as opposed to Arab Republic of Egypt. The coin was minted when Egypt and Syria where united into a confederation. It is KM-405 and weighs 5 grams of 0.72 silver. It measures approximately 24 mm in diameter. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1964 AD - 1384 AH. Mint: Egypt. Size and weight: This is a ten piastres, weighs 5 grams and is ~24 mm in diameter. References: It is KM #405. Condition: I would grade this coin as a beautiful proof with all the details being very well preserved and all of its original mint luster with mirror like fields and matte design. The coin is much better than the scan shows. It does have some minor scratches and a line on the reverse at about 3 O'clock which we believe is due to a hairline crack in the die and is original to the minting. However, these issues and of no concern and do not compromise the quality and beauty of the coin. Just a great looking coin which is rare in this state and is of limited mintage of 2000.
