Description: 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar Accented Hair PRF68 NGC. The hazing on both the obverse and reverse is a common sign of what looks to be the start of rainbow toning or coloring of the coin while encapsulated. In hand this coin is actually amazing and some hazing is simply over exaggerated and of course the scratches on the case are simply making it difficult to get really good photos. My apologies. This is considered a higher grade than most. Apparently when I look up my PCGS MS69 it says there are only 59 in this grade (IN PCGS). NONE HIGHER! I’ve little knowledge of the NGC’s numbers on this particular graded coin as I am not a member of NGC. I presume it to be just as low in GRADE, regardless this is still a low populated coin in PROOF MS68. *** I’ve done my best to photo shoot this coin but I continue to get really bad photos. The coin does not look all hazy and blemished as pictured. Truly this is a beautiful coin. Especially when actually held. *** * There are no firm numbers on exactly how many 1964 Accented Hair Proof Kennedy Half Dollars were struck, but - estimates - suggest there are only between 50,000 to 100,000 which rolled off the presses. Since that time it is estimated that only 10,000 have been discovered. That means the Accented Hair design accounts for less than 5% of the entire Proof mintage run of 3,950,762 examples. Values for this scarce type range from about $50 to $75 for a typical example in the range of PR63 to PR65. However, superb examples graded PR68 or higher can fetch $350 or more. One of the highest prices ever achieved by this coveted Kennedy Half Dollar rarity was realized at a September 2017 Heritage Auctions event, when a gorgeous example graded *** PR68DCAM *** crossed the block for a sensational $17,400.
