Description: An ultra rare 1967 ad for the Monterey international pop festival Held at the Monterey county fairgrounds June 16-17-18, the abs first pop festival Showcasing Los Angeles and San Francisco groups Ulta rare ad: Where Jimi Hendrix , The Who were seen in America for the first time, the first festival of the era put on by John Phillips and the hollywood set, this was a tug of war of San Francisco and so called Los Angeles bands- Janis Joplin got her record contract with Clive Davis after her stunning performance , brought her into new heights yet which wasent allowed to be filmed by there then manager for the D. A. Pennebaker film , but were encouraged and did a second set primarily for the film and ultimately having Bob Dylan’s Manager Albert Grossman taking over to represent them , ultimately making her a star!! Otis Redding performed Buffalo Springfield Byrd’s Lou Rawls Jefferson airplane Simon and Garfunkel Mamas and papas Grateful Dead Electric flag Butterfield Blues project Ravi Shankar Quicksilver Animals Laura Nyro Booker T Moby grape Canned heat Steve miller The association Between LA and San Francisco bands at the time , it was hands down the gang from the fillmore and Avalon set who blew everyone away, not the so called manufacturerd Los Angeles groups This ad promotes this groundbreaking festival for June 1967 for tickets and location I have not seen or had another one like it so rarity is high At 57 years old it has survived and surfaced but there are 2 lower right edge tears from fragility Some brown spotting as shown , however it’s a scarce artifact with historical value Ad size: 4.
