Description: This is for sale of 2 dormant bulbs for each size. This is the best time of year to buy these plants in their dormant stage when they are practically immune to damage. Just store bulbs in paper bags until Spring when they will start growing a stem and roots. (See our other listing with even larger bulbs.) Easy to grow tropical looking and exotic native to Yunnan Province in China. In spring, before the leaf emerges, a 6" to 8" tall flower perches on top of a 12" stalk. The flower resembles a large ivory shell showcasing a white cigar-shaped appendage called a spadix that is green at the tip. If pollinated, the spadix becomes a green clump of berries that gradually turns orange, then red. Following the flower is a green to grey spotted green stalk that emerges and grows 16" to 28" tall terminating in a glossy green umbrella-like leaf spreading 20" to 24" and cut into many leaflets. This tuber rapidly offsets, creating many new plants and creating a nice 2' x 2' patch of many plants in 5 years in a woodland garden. In Zones 7b thru 9, it can be left outside all year around, although in 7, give it a little extra protection and mulch. In Zones 3 thru 6, dig up the tuber after the leaf dies down in the fall and store the tuber in a dry location at room temperature. If growing in a pot, give it better drainage by mixing 2 parts perlite with 1 part potting mix. Heavily fertilize the first couple of months. My wife thinks most Amorphophallus look evil and ugly, but she likes this little white one. And it does not smell as much as it's relatives and only for a few hours when trying to attract flies for pollination. Usually, the tuber stays dormant until late June. Then it continues until frost. Extremely deer and varmint resistant.
