Good, first edition book, no dust jacket. Brown cloth covered boards with charming black illustrations on front panel, along with black and gilt lettering. Similar illustrations on spine with gilt lettering and brown stamped lettering against a gilt background. Illustrations on front panel, one showing a young boy on horseback alongside a canal and boat, the other appears to be of a swearing in ceremony. Back board panel has a stamped decorative border. Boards are soiled, stained and faded but illustrations are still appreciable. All extremities are rubbed, edges at head and tail of board spine are split and frayed, all corners are rubbed through, and all edges are scuffed and close to rub throughs. End papers are soiled; FFEP has previous owner's name and other penciled notations. External page edges are soiled and age-darkened. there are a few internal smudges on the 334 pages of text otherwise text is clean. Following the text there are 16 additional pages advertising "Now Ready the Charles Dickens' Little Folks Books. Two examples shown in pictures.
