Description: Saint Hedwig, patron saint of Bavaria and Poland was evoked by brides, jealous lovers, and couples with marital problems. She assisted the poor and was often times seen walking the streets without shoes, even in the coldest winter nights. This retablo was selected to be a part of the exhibition “Faith and Private Devotion, Retablos, Santos and Animas Solas from the Stearns Collection”. The retablo is documented in full color in the 134 page exhibition catalog, page 118. Very good condition for its age with minor loss of paint as shown in the photographs. Please study the photographs closely. Saint Hedwig / Mexico / Oil on tin / 10” x 14” / ca 1875
