Description: Early Stoneware Master Ink Bottle, Arnold's Chemical Writing Fluid. This stoneware bottle is impressed with "Vitreous Stone Bottles; J. Bourne & Sons, Ltd.; Denby Pottery, near Derby, England" and made for P. & J. Arnold, London. This very heavy stoneware bottle with a dark brown glaze measures 9.5" tall and 3.5" diameter at its base. This ink bottle once held 32 oz. of ink according to the impressed mark on its shoulder, but is now EMPTY. It has a pouring spout with a cork stopper and is in very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. This bottle has its original paper label with two circular stamps advertising, "Prize Medal" in the upper left corner and "Exhibition 1862" in the upper right corner. P. J. Arnold received a Medal at the The International Exhibition of 1862 for his "writing inks of good quality". The label has some wear, as shown in the photos above, but it is still colorful, legible and in remarkably good condition for its age and use. It also has part of the back label as seen in the photos.
