Description: First appearing in the journal Lafitte in 1907, Arsène Lupin is very much a foil to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. A gentleman-burglar by trade, Lupin's career is based on daring plots, impenetrable disguises, intricate preparations, and a certain panache that has always maintained its appeal. 21 novels or collections were published by 1941, as well as an unpublished manuscript, "The Last Love of Arsène Lupin." In the early 1970s Lupin saw a revival with a further five novels written by Boileau-Narcejac, as well as the long-running manga and anime Lupin III. A modern interpretation of Lupin is now appearing in the Netflix series.
