Description: Audio Classique Clear Acrylic Platter Mat for Transcriptor and Michell Hydraulic and Electronic Reference Turntables as well as Saturn, Skeleton etc An excellent upgrade for all Transcriptor & Michell Turntables with Planet Supports Suitable for Hydraulic and Electronic Reference, Saturn, Skeleton Transcriber etc. This 3mm Clear Acrylic Platter Mat is 300mm diameter, making it the ideal size, fractional smaller than an LP, allowing the LP to be lifted off the Platter without the Acrylic Mat getting in the way. It has an etched recessed centre to accommodate the LP Label. As visually appealing as the Gold (or Silver) Planets are, it does not alter the fact that they are not the ideal surface on which to rest your record due to the lack of overall support, which can cause a loss of detail, stereo definition and supress the dynamics. In fact Michell did offer, as an option, a 4mm smoked glass Platter Mat and replacement lengthen Spindle. If you could find one - the Michell Glass Mat weighs 630 grams, the Audio Classique Acrylic Mat weighs only 245 grams, putting far less strain on the drive belt and motor during start up and running. Ideally the Mat needs to be combined with the lengthened Spindle (many Michell Turntables have these fitted), as in photographs 9 & 10 However if you have an original standard length Spindle and the correct profile Planet inserts fitted, the Spindle will still be long enough, as in photographs 4 & 5 The Audio Classique Platter Mat will also be suitable for other Turntables where the Acrylic Mat may also be of benefit to performance.This listing is for the Acrylic Platter Mat only - as in Photograph 2 - it does NOT include anything elseA customer who purchased one of my Audio Classique Platter Mats for his Transcriptor Hydraulic Reference Turntable offered the followingThis is a very effective upgrade. You can always tell the difference between a 180 g Vinyl and some of the thinner 1990's versions on the turntable, and this (Platter Mat) combined with a record clamp does give a nice platform. The music is tighter and more dynamically together. What is key is that it does not change the fundamental characteristics of the sound. Sometime with these type of upgrades if you are not careful you end up with a "different" Turntable. This is really worthwhile and cost effective improvement. (What's not to like, and if you fancy a change you just take it off !!)
