Boonville Mo Cigar Box RARE G J Garthoffner See Description

Description: This comes from a second generation Boonville Missouri item collector who has decided to let go of some items. Please save me as a seller as I will be listing more Boonville Mo items from this collection. Some are very rare and other examples haven’t been up for sale in the past 30+ years This is one of those extremely rare items that you will most likely never find another one for sale, it was purchased many years ago and another one hasn’t come up for sale since then. George J Garthoffner was born in Boonville in 1857 and laid to rest in Boonville in 1936. His son Edward J was also in the cigar business in Boonville after taking over for his father from 1890 to 1910. This box is believed to pre date Edward’s owning of the business so would date sometime before 1890. The first store building was razed in 1898. The lid is detached from the box as seen in photos and there is a small section of the wooden box missing from the front top edge as shown in photo #2, lid also has some cupping and is not completely flat
