Description: Mildred (Oppenheimer) Knopf created this oversized home-made photo album measuring 13" x 15", housing original photographs taken in and/or around Boothbay Maine during the summer of 1933. Almost all of the 47 images measure about 4-3/4" x 6-7/8", featuring scenes with themes of water, housing, landscape and people, often of what we presume to be their children. Mildred Knopf married the film producer/director and screenwriter Edwin Knopf, brother of the publisher Alfred Knopf. This provenance displays on the underside of the Title Page in the form of a gift inscription from Mildred to Edwin dated Christmas, 1941. Condition: The binding has a patterned fabric, possibly silk over boards, with moire silk pastedowns, front and back. Significant foxing and browning afflict these pastedowns, but spare the paper and photos within. We detect some trivial incidence of silvering on some photos, which attest to their originality without affecting their intrinsic quality. In good, sound condition with the silk of the pastedowns heavily foxed. A few images within the body of the album have been removed, leaving a footprint of yellow glue.
