Lewis (1898-1963), all published by Pan Books of London in 1960 (New Edition in the collectable Great Pan complete and unabridged editions, each with complimentary newly illustrated covers). These books make up a complete matching set of what became known as the author’s The Space Trilogy. They are: Out of the Silent Planet. It was published in 1960 and is the 4th printing with a newly designed cover published as the “New Edition”. Out of the Silent Planet was the first novel of a science fiction trilogy by C. S. Lewis, sometimes referred to as the Space Trilogy, Ransom Trilogy or Cosmic Trilogy. The other volumes were Perelandra (also published as Voyage to Venus) and That Hideous Strength, and a fragment of a sequel was published posthumously as The Dark Tower. It was published in 1960 and is the 3rd printing with a newly designed cover although does not specify “New Edition.” In this third and final adventure of Dr Ransom, now returned to Earth from his planetary travels and living on the outskirts of an English University town. The central danger – the ‘hideous strength’ – will be enjoyed by all who like a good shocker: it will also have more serious repercussions for those who may have read the author’s Abolition of Man. In That Hideous Strength a scientific think tank called the N.I.C.E. (The National Institute of Co-ordinated Experiments) is secretly in touch with demonic entities who plan to ravage and lay waste to planet Earth… This was the third book in what became known as his The Space Trilogy or Cosmic Trilogy by the author who became most famous for his later series The Chronicles of Narnia. The books are in good generally neat condition for their age, save wear/bumps and the odd minor crease, and the pages are a little faded with age. The bindings are good with light creasing along the spines and no loose or missing pages. There are no inscriptions/book-plates and no other ink or pencil markings in the books.
