Description: THE GIANT CLAW The Giant Claw is a 1957 American monster film from Columbia Pictures, produced by Sam Katzman, directed by Fred F. Sears, that stars Jeff Morrow and Mara Corday. Both Sears and Katzman were well known as low-budget B film genre filmmakers. The film was released as a double feature with The Night the World Exploded. REAR COVER The movie that's literally a turkey! In an act of cosmic irony, an enormous bird from outer space descends upon the Earth and begins chowing down on people. As usual, scientists and the military must team up to save our planet. This hysterically feathered fable stars sci-fi icons Jeff Morrow (This Island Earth), Mara Corday (Tarantula!), Morris Ankrum (Invaders From Mars) and Robert Shayne (TV's "The Adventures of Superman*), and is directed by Fred F. Sears (Earth vs. The Flying Saucers). DETAILED PLOT Mitch MacAfee (Morrow), a civil aeronautical engineer, while engaged in a radar test flight near the North Pole, spots an unidentified flying object. Three jet fighter aircraft are scrambled to pursue and identify the object but one aircraft goes missing. Officials are initially angry at MacAfee over the loss of a pilot and jet over what they believe to be a hoax. When MacAfee and mathematician Sally Caldwell (Corday) fly back to New York, their aircraft also comes under attack by a UFO. With their pilot dead, they crash-land in the Adirondacks, where Pierre Broussard (Lou Merrill), a French-Canadian farmer, comes to their rescue, and reports seeing a giant monster bird he calls La Carcagne. MacAfee's report is met with bewilderment and skepticism, but the military authorities are forced to take his story seriously after several more aircraft disappear. They discover that the gigantic bird, "as big as a battleship" and purported to come from an antimatter galaxy, is responsible for all the incidents. MacAfee, Caldwell, Dr. Karol Noymann (Edgar Barrier), General Considine (Morris Ankrum), and General Van Buskirk (Robert Shayne) work feverishly to develop a way to defeat the seemingly invincible creature. The climactic showdown takes place in Manhattan, when the gigantic bird attacks both the Empire State Building and United Nations building. It is defeated by a special type of exotic atom, muonic atoms, deployed from the tail gun position of a B-25 bomber aircraft, which successfully collapses the creature's antimatter shield and allows missiles to hit and kill the monster. The giant bird plummets into the Atlantic Ocean outside New York City, and the last sight of it is a claw sinking beneath the ocean. CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN Creature with the Atom Brain is a 1955 American zombie horror science fiction film directed by Edward L. Cahn and starring Richard Denning. American gangster Frank Buchanan (Michael Granger) forces German scientist Wilhelm Steigg to create zombies by resurrecting corpses through atomic radiation in order to exact revenge on his enemies. Creature with the Atom Brain was released as the bottom half of a double feature with It Came from Beneath the Sea. REAR COVER From the pen of the legendary Curt Siodmak (The Wolf Man, Donovan's Brain) and director Edward L. Cahn (it! The Terror From Beyond Space) comes this smash-bang thriller starring Richard Denning (Creature From The Black Lagoon) as a police doctor hot on the trail of a mob boss who's hired an ex-Nazi scientist to reanimate his dead thugs. If it seems like a condensed serial, it shouldn't be a surprise: the cast is packed with such chapterplay vets as Gregory Gaye, Tristam Coffin, Harry Lauter, Pierre Watkin, Lane Chandler, Don Harvey and Charles Horvath. DETAILED PLOT A hulking zombie breaks into a mansion and kills a gangster named Hennesy. The glowing bloodstains left behind at the crime scene are radioactive, as are the killer's fingerprints –which are of a man who had died days before. The police are baffled, but begin their investigation. They soon discover that the connection between Hennesy and subsequent murders is Frank Buchanan, a former crime boss who had been deported to Europe. While there, Buchanan funded the research of German scientist Wilhelm Steigg to reanimate the dead. Having returned (with Steigg still beholden to him for funding) to the States, Buchanan seeks revenge on all who had sent him to prison in the first place. The zombies, although they move fairly slowly, obey their radioed commands explicitly, have fantastic strength. They have no initiative, but can readily navigate the city and perform fairly complex tasks. They can drive, speak on behalf of Buchanan (including over the phone), are impervious to bullets, including those fired at point-blank range, and can bend steel bars and tear off steering wheels with ease. Too, they all have massive scars visible on their foreheads from their brain surgery. Following the fantastic clues yet irrefutable clues under the leadership of Chet Walker, both police and army troops eventually converge on Buchanan's mansion. Buchanan summarily kills Steigg and sends out a horde of zombies to battle them. Chet Walker, who had been in overall charge of the investigation, smashes the atomic-powered equipment which controls them, rendering them useless.
