Mug PATTERN: Desert Rose CIRCA: 1949 - 1953 CATEGORY: Pottery and China BACKSTAMP: The bowls have the "Franciscan Made in California" mark that used from 1953 to 1958, SNACK PLATE MEASUREMENT: 10 1/2" D. SMALL MUG MEASUREMENT: 2 7/8" H. - 4 1/2" L. CONDITION: We are pleased to offer for sale an unblemished round coup party plate and small mug in Franciscan's Desert Rose pattern. These snack plates were made between 1949 and 1953. The indented cup ring was made to accommodate the small mug, a tumbler, or a cup. The coup party plate is very hard to find. The mugs are fairly common. This awesome snack set is in Undamaged Condition without chips, cracks, or mold imperfections. The color and hand painted decoration is fantastic. The plates are free of scratching. There is no crazing or use marks. This is exactly what you would expect of Franciscan China made in the USA during the 1940s and 50s. We have duplicates of this fantastic snack set. They are all in the same Undamaged Condition as the set shown. Please check the listing to see how many of these wonderful sets are still available. Desert Rose- ( Made in U.S.A. 1941-1984) Desert Rose was even more popular than Franciscan's Apple pattern. It was Franciscan's most popular selling pattern during the U.S. production period. Both Apple and Desert Rose have close to a hundred different pieces, so putting together a collection can be a daunting task. Pieces made before 1947 have green trim on the lids. After 1947, the green trim was discontinued due to production costs. Pieces made after 1984 in England did not have the same quality in the hand painted design. Most collectors can tell at a glance if their item is new orolder, but if they are unsure they can check the bottom to see if the piece is stamped "Made in England." Today, pieces of Desert Rose are made in Portugal, but some of the shapes have been changed, and the quality cannot be compared to the beautiful pieces made in California.
