From 1920 to 1924 he lived in Munich and Berlin; During this time he became a member of the German Artists' Association.[1] In 1925-1928 he was a member of the Vienna artists' association Hagenbund. Ehrlich's main work is a lithographic Bible cycle in which he processed his experiences from the First World War, as well as bronze sculptures, portraits and landscape paintings. Since Ehrlich was Jewish, he was forced to leave his homeland Austria; he emigrated to England in 1937 and spent the Second World War there. He created the memorial to commemorate the destruction of Coventry. In 1937, as part of the Nazi Degenerate Art campaign, six of Ehrlich's prints were confiscated from public collections in Germany.
