John Lobb Loafers (bespoke)

Description: These appear to be “bespoke“ John Lobb shoes (not from theirready-to-wear line). The insoles have the seals of Her Majesty Queen ElizibethII, His Royal Highness Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh,along with “John Lobb” London – Paris - New York. The cost of new bespoke shoes from John Lobbis over $6,000. The new ready-to-wearcost would about $1,800 but the style of these shoes is unique and does notappear to be anything currently available in the ready-to-wear line. I bought these shoes hoping they were size 11D, but they areactually size 12D. There is no sizeinformation stamped inside these shoes, only a “last number” 79624 is handwritteninside each shoe. This number is in theinstep and thus I was not able to get a picture of it. These shoes appear to havethe original blake-stitched soles and original heels. The shoes are pictured with vintage shoe treesstamped 12D, which are sold with the shoes. These shoe trees fit well and thus verify the size of these shoes. I believe the uppers on these shoes were stretched out. I have reconditioned the uppers but they bestfit 12D shoe trees. The interior shoeliners are quite worn as is the elastic. After the elastic wore out, I believe that these fitted the previousowner loosely and that is why the inner liners are worn. There is also some cracking on the right sideof the right shoe due to lack of care and use of leather conditioner in thepast. This is not severe and is typicalof calf-skin shoes that are likely 50 years old. To fix these shoes properly will require new elastic, innerlining repair and new soles. I expectthat will cost about $400. Do a YouTube search of “John Lobb recrafting” andyou will find Bedo’s Leatherworks. I suggestsuede heel linings, since loafers tend to slip on the heels and that was part ofthe cause of the wear problems in these shoes. There are few opportunities to own a bespoke (or even aready-to-wear) pair of John Lobb shoes. If you aspire to this, then the price is fair.
