This allows the photographer to selectively adjust exposure across the frame without affecting color balance. The soft gradation is ideal when there is no definite transition between sky and foreground, for instance woodland, mist & interiors. LEE's 85mm filters are formulated with harder than usual grad lines to compensate for smaller sensor size and come in a range of strengths denoting the light stopping power of the dark area of the filter - from 1 to 3 stops.
