It was built between 1751 and 1758 by José de la Borda, who had made a great fortune in the silver mines surrounding the town. Despite his wealth, however, the opulence of the church nearly bankrupted him. It is built with pink stone, flanked by two towers which are plain in the lower half but highly decorated in the upper bell portions. The cupola is covered in colored tile. Inside, there are a number of floor-to-ceiling altarpieces, all covered in gold. 3) Montreal Canada~Mount Royal Funicular Railway~Incline~Park~steam car~closed 1918 Published by: Raphael Tuck & Sons - printed in Saxony - Series No. 2528 "Montreal" The Mount Royal Funicular Railway, also known as the Mountain Park Funicular Railway and the Mount Royal Elevator, was a funicular railway serving Mount Royal Park in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, from 1884 to 1918.The railway consisted of a horizontal section that brought travellers from the ticket house, located near what is now the George-Étienne Cartier Monument, to a transfer station at the base of the mountain, where riders boarded the funicular cars. Both sections were steam-driven, with cars pulled by cables.Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of Mount Royal Park, was opposed to the funicular. His plan was for people to take a leisurely stroll up the mountain and to enjoy the views along the way instead of being whisked straight to the top by a machine. It was declared structurally unsafe and closed in 1918, and dismantled in 1920. 4) Victoria British Columbia Canada~Gorge Bridge~sailboat~Tillicum Road~Waterway Published by: Curt Teich - made in USA - code R-56856 sets printing date in 1915 View looking west from beneath the Tillicum Road bridge over the Gorge Waterway and rapids. It opened officially on July 6, 1899 and featured white woodwork supported by two substantial steel arches lined with electric lights.Used to the point of deterioration, the bridge's safety began to become a concern beginning in 1915. It was finally demolished in 1933 and replaced with a new, lighter-framed steel structure.
