Description: Really interesting matte silver French restrike medal. The medal is dated 1668 (again, this is not that old, it is a restrike), and commemorates the Re-establishment of French Naval Forces. The obverse features the bust of Louis XIV with a trident behind him. The reverse features a sailing vessel with the words 'NAVAGATIO INSTAVRATA' above, and the date 1668 below. The edge is marked '2ARGENT' - Argent being the French word for silver, and the 2 marking it as 80% silver. It is a nicely detailed medal and has a LARGE diameter of 50mm (for comparison, a Morgan Silver Dollar has a diameter of just over 38mm). This also comes with a typed slip from a previous owner. Please check out all the pics to judge condition for yourself! I do not see any other versions of this silver medal on eBay, so I believe it is pretty scarce!
