The lowered waist, addition of belt loops and two side waist adjustment straps are the most striking visual changes, however a whole host of smaller changes such as reinforced stitching, doubled-up front button and ankle cords are also present. Allowing the soldier to wear the leather belt securely without wearing the tunic was a substantial change in design and easy to do using the button down loops.
