Vuillemin Very interesting hand colored framed map of the Caribbean and Central America area with the title and place names labeled in French as well as some in indigenous languages by Alexandre Vuillemin (1812-1880), engraved/published by Fosset, Paris and published circa 1852-1860. Includes a decorative swash letter title: “Carte Des Antilles, du Golfe du Mexique Et Des Etats De L’Amerique Centrale” (Map of the West Indies, Gulf of Mexico and States of Central America). Labels in the corner include…Top left-hand corner: "Geographie moderne" (Modern Geography); Top right-hand corner: Pl. 77; Lower left-hand corner: Dressee par A. Vuillemin (Prepared by A. Vuillemin); Lower right-hand corner: Imp. Fosset, Paris; Shows many of the main cities, some early railroads, rivers as well as bays, lagoons, islands, reefs, etc. in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. Relief shown by hachures. Map is framed and matted and measures about 9” by 12.5” and the frame measures about 15.5” by 19”. In very good condition with a wood gold-tone frame, behind glass, 2 1/2" matting, brown paper backing with wire hanger. Wonderful addition to any home or office wall! Alexandre Vuillemin (1812-1880) was a prominent 19th century French cartographer and editor based in Paris and produced a number of atlases that were very popular.
