The Call of Cthulhu roleplay game was based upon the H P Lovecraft horror genre of books that were written from the beginning of the last century. The game is an excellent use of genre and storytelling. One of the best things about Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu game is its use of props. Being able to find and handle physical items that bring you deeper into the game is a big part of the fun. I mean how often do you find a book, or item in the game, and are handed a picture of it, or it is just described. Imagine actually handing it out in the game, to be passed round to whoever dares to look at it, and make the San check.The Masks of Nyarlathotep (MoN) adventure was originally published in 1984 by Chaosium and subtitled Perilous Adventures to Thwart the Dark God. Later, as it was repeatedly revised, this changed to Dark Schemes Herald the End of the World, which gives you an idea of the size of the adventure. The adventure itself is widely acclaimed and is considered by many to be the finest roleplaying adventure ever written. MoN consists of a series of globetrotting adventures that run consecutively in a real timeline of overall events. The adventure is set in the 1920s and takes the player characters from their start in New York, to London, Cairo, Nairobi, and Shanghai. Australia and then Peru were later added in the more recent editions. This product is an excellent set of props to enhance your role playing fun for the MoN module, which is not included in this set. All of the handouts, maps and props from the game have been created as highly realistic detailed props. Plus there's a whole bunch of bonus stuff that Chaosium doesn't include in the Masks of Nyarlathotep adventure in here as well. Why would you want these excellent props instead of the ones that come with the Chaosium's new edition of the game? Well...... The creators of this product believe, quite rightly I'll add, that great props make for great gaming. So they've used their 30 years of experience in making props for games to create this set. Now, the book of the game is limited to the Keeper running the game, struggling with the book over a photocopier, or spending huge hours creating them themselves. As these props can be printed in larger sizes, on different kinds of paper, and with additional details, then you are getting so much more in reaslism. For example, the newspaper clippings are really printed on one of the few remaining newspaper presses in the country. They have back sides with genuine copy and advertisements from vintage papers. They've created custom fonts based on real old newspapers to capture the feel of vintage typography. They look right, they feel right and they even smell right! These props are not limited to the size of a PDF, or the size of most people's A4 photocopiers, so they are way bigger than you'll ever find in a any game supplement. Hmmmnnnn you are thinking, so what do you get? All 109 prop documents, handouts, and maps from the Chaosium game supplement, designed and printed in the most realistic manner possible. Twenty-one more bonus props which have been included because the creators think they'll make your gaming even more fun. An Ediphone wax cylinder case that holds a custom USB drive containing eight props that are audio files recorded by professional actors. Play them for your players! This also includes transcripts to aid players' memories. Pay attention players! A set of 6 Nansen Passports issued by the League of Nations for your players and a set of custom passports stamps which can document your players' travels. A Chinese scroll containing mystical secrets in Mandarin. This is the largest, most detailed prop collection ever made for the Call of Cthulhu. And probably any other RPG ever. Others have tried and failed to produce a collection of props for this game. Grrrr, I myself spent A LOT of money on that! Planning to run the campaign more than once? This really is a top notch set of film quality props, and weighs in at 1760 grams, so it no lightweight, hence the postage.
