Description: New York City Hawaii Kai Polynesian Restaurant Menu With a Galaxy of Tiki DrinksMenu does show some wear at edges but overall, fantastic menu! Smoke free house "America’s most effulgent tiki restaurant offered plenty to read on its menu. Page after page of enticements: “Maiden’s Downfall—Virgins Beware! Arouses the inner soul…Sufferin’ Bastard—A Dirty Stinker…Hawaii Kai Swizzle—Potent and Palatable, loaded with four distinct rums…” And lots of food for when the buzz begins to wane: “Celestial Nani—Minced Pork, water Chestnuts, and sliced eggs, island ravioli style, served in tureen…” That’s just the soup course, yours for seventy-five cents. $4.75 brings you “Pork Pango Pango—a taste sensation. Whole pork filet barbecued to a delectable flavor, served on a bed of lava rice with wild plum sauce—and Hawaiian fritter.” All this leads to the Hawaiian Luau: “A riotous time is had by all with voices raised merrily in song and bodies swaying gracefully to the strains of Island music.” But lest things get out of hand, we’re reminded that “Religion plays a very important part in the lives of the Polynesians, and a prayer is always said before partaking of any food.”The restaurant opened in 1962 at 1680 Broadway and held on for a generation. Possibly the most entertaining menu ever printed."
