Description: Rare Antique Pair Wedgwood Tortoiseshell Majolica & Silverplate Mugs 1875 Offered for sale is this wonderful pair of Victorian Wedgwood mugs, done in tortoiseshell majolica and banded with the silverplate. The mugs have an old fashioned look, flared toward the base. The whole ensemble is designed to look like horn mugs banded with leather--the bands have buckles on them! The handles are decorated with an Egyptian mask and chasing. Each mug has four marks: the British Registration mark, which dates the pattern to 1875, an impressed Wedgwood mark, the pseudo-hallmark of the silverplate maker and the retailer's mark, "E.E. Emanuel High St Portsmouth". The mugs are 6 inches tall by 4 1/4 inches wide at the widest part of the bodies. The pair weighs 2 lbs 12 oz (shipping weight 5 lbs). Condition: Excellent condition.
