In this hotbed of sexual repression and obsession that was way ahead of its time, Brando plays an army major on an isolated post somewhere in the south, who gradually realizes that he is homosexual although still married to Taylor. Taylor meanwhile is having an affair with the officer next door (Keith). Director Huston along with cinematographer Aldo Tonti translated this kinky universe into a stunning masterpiece.
