Description: Model Engineer Magazine featured this project Internal Combustion Road Roller project by Mr. E.T. Westbury in 1938, The project was strung out through a whole year of the magazine with one installment every other issue. It is somewhat of a challenge now 80 years or so later to assemble the complete project from the old magazine series. I started collecting and buying magazines over 7 years ago and finally got every installment issue for my collection. Some pages are severely foxed and there are a few marks and notes (most I have erased) and along the way I accumulated some other photos and information which I have added to the collection. I enlarged, color corrected, repaired some pages and then published this into a 100 page book which I am now offering in this listing. Although some of the pages were very badly foxed I managed to get the entire article into readable condition and it is complete. This work is offered under the general provisions of the "Public Creative Commons" and I am not intending to infringe on the publication copyrights of the original publisher. Other companies also offer this set of instruction in similar condition and claim the same "Public Creative Commons" right of publication.I am currently building patterns for the castings used in this model and will be offering those castings to prospective builders by end of this year (2023).The Aveling Road Internal Combustion engine Roller marked the end of Steam road rollers in the early part of the last century. Mr. Westbury shouldered an enormous project to model one of these rollers back in the 1930's and I applaud his effort. I hope that my endeavor here keeps his memory alive for a few more years. Although the engine in the prototype was diesel, Mr. Westbury built a small gasoline engine to power his model. His engine really looks like the Aveling diesel! The model is about 22" long, 12" tall and 7" wide and made mostly of steel, aluminum and brass. It runs on gasoline, is a single cylinder four cycle engine and has functional steering and transmission with a differential on the rear wheel drive. The throttle and controls are similar in design and function to the prototype. This is a very detailed model and should effect hours of satisfaction in its construction, It would make a wonderful winter project!100 page book with the complete construction series, comb bound, castings to follow this fall, keep an eye on my e-bay store!
