Devoted to the "galant" (stylish/refined) lifestyle, prostitutes and the men who pursue them, contemporary morals and the lack of same, prostitution. Pages loose in cover as published. Scans say it best! The French have earned a global reputation for a devotion to publishing including books, periodicals and newspapers. Within the scope of the diversity of the French printed word also came French illustrated "serial" publications. Focused on societal, religious and political norms, they took the form of illustrated satyrical and humorous newspapers and periodicals in circa 1850s. It was not long after the birth of these publications that "special issues" were spun off leading eventually to a host a stand alone titles. By the-turn-of-the 20th century the Parisian kiosk were getting crowded with new titles, many focus on "la vie en rose", Parisian nightlife and prostitutions.
