Addressed to Bernard Weitzman of Desilu Productions, but with a line for Stack's approval. In full: "In accordance with our telephone conversation today, we desire to refer to your television program, 'The Untouchables' in the forthcoming Billy Wilder production tentatively entitled 'The Apartment', starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Enclosed herewith are pages 28 and 29 of the script, [Items not included.] marked at the places referring to 'The Untouchables' and to Bob Stack. If, in accordance with your agreement with Mr. Stack, it is necessary that you procure his approval, will you also have him affix his signature to the enclosed copy of this letter. Cordially". ROBERT STACK (1919-2003) is best known for his portrayal of Treasury Agent Eliot Ness, fighting crime in Chicago of the 1930s, in the popular TV series, The Untouchables (1959-1963). Stack's other TV successes included Unsolved Mysteries, which he hosted from 1987 to 2002. His 60 years in feature films included an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Written on the Wind (1956). When I Love Lucy co-stars (and spouses) Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz formed their own production company, Desilu, they hired away some of the capable CBS executives with whom they had worked already. These included BERNARD WEITZMAN, who would work later with Lorimar and Universal, and as CEO of Commonwealth Studios. RAYMOND KURTZMAN (1927-2007), an entertainment lawyer, worked in the legal and business affairs departments of several Hollywood companies, Allied Artists, Columbia Pictures, the William Morris Agency and Creative Artists. The Apartment, for which this consent form was written, went on to win 6 Oscars in 1960, including Best Picture and Best Director (Wilder). Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine received nominations as Best Actor and Actress. The film makes the AFI's list of the top 100 American movies of all time. With the references to the TV classic The Untouchables, this piece is a fine sample of American entertainment history. Lightly creased and toned. Fine condition.
