This is Stephen Mackenna's copy, and bears the signature to the title page, his initials to the first page, and the bookplate of the collection of MacKenna's books formerly held by the Lowenac Hotel in Cornwall to the front endpaper (see pictures). Original blue decorative cloth gilt hardback. Original black endpapers. 236 pages. Externally attractive with some light bumping and wear to the corner-tips and spine-ends and slight fading to the spine (see pictures). Light browning to prelims. Hinges slightly tender, but binding is sound and square. A nice example of this very scarce book. Samuel Ferguson (1810-1886) inspired Yeats and the Irish Literary Revival. Stephen Mackenna (Stiophan Mac Enna, 1872-1934) was an Irish Nationalist, writer and classicist. Dismayed by the Civil War, he left Ireland and lived quietly in Cornwall.
