Description: Savannah, GA- Bank of the State of Georgia $20 18__ G582a Proof PCGS New 62, POCs.The Bank of the State of Georgia opened in 1815 and continued in business until about 1866, when it suspended due to losses suffered during the Civil War. It had branches in Athens, Augusta, Eatonton, Greensborough, and Washington with agencies in other cities such as Atlanta, Columbus, Griffin, Macon, Madison, Milledgeville, and Rome. This $20 note was designed for branch use and features an eagle holding a ribbon inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM by a federal shield flanked by a vignette of Commerce on the left and Ceres on the right. It is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature spaces. While issued notes are common, the same can not be said of this design in Proof form, with only one example of this note appearing in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. EX ALAN DORRIS SALE 2105 $1,175..
