Description: Set of 4 ROCKAWAY BEACH Hotel Silver Plated Dinner Forks New York circa 1880Own a piece of history! These dinner forks were made by Wilcox Silver Plate Co, for the Rockaway Beach Hotel in Rockaway, Queens, New York City circa 1880. The pattern, named Derby, was patented in 1878 right around when the hotel opened. The hotel was five blocks long, and nothing so extravagant in size had ever been undertaken. The hotel was never fully occupied, but a wing was opened in August, 1881, and the bar flourished for a time. In 1884, it was sold for $30,000 and torn down for second hand lumber. Each fork is 7-1/2" long and is monogrammed "ROCKAWAY BEACH" on the handle. Good antique condition with some wear and scratches. No dents or plate loss. See photos for condition details.
