Description: An original, copperplate engraved map of SOUTH WEST SCOTLAND. Engraved by Pieter Van den Keere in 1599 (his Latinised name - Petrus Kaerius - appears on the map), this edition was first published by George Humble in 1627. Several more editions were published up to 1676. The map is framed (260x200mm), mounted and double glazed. The printed area measures 120x85mm. There is English text verso (a historico-geographical description of Scotland) and the map has later hand colour. This miniature map shows in some detail, the rivers, hills and settlements (including Glasgow, Paisley etc) of the region which extends from the Solway Firth in the south to Mull in the north. Among other noteworthy features are Loch Lomond, Islay and Kintyre. The lower margin of the map has been extended (not affecting the printed area): otherwise it is in very good condition.
