Description: LEE MORGAN The Rajah. Used LP (RE/DMM) pressed in France, in Near Mint/Near Mint condition. Classic Blue Note! Catalog # BST 84426; 1966, reissued 1984 Condition: The record and jacket could pass for just having had the shrinkwrap removed in 1984. Played all of twice by me, the original owner. I have remarked in some of my other listings that Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) for a reissue doesn’t make much sense if a batch of vinyl is of shoddy quality. Happy to say that Blue Note got it right with this one. Note that I have replaced original paper inner sleeve with a soft poly one, since I had made notes on original about applying noise reduction for master tape hiss. I was just a bit fanatical about such things in my youth! Behind the Music: Blue Note Records, founded 1939, really hit its stride in the late 1950s, thru the ’60s and on into the decade after that. This album is but one of many masterpieces the label cranked out in that period. Trumpet player Morgan met a sad end, apparently shot dead by a jilted lover. In his lifetime, though, he had been a bright light indeed in the Jazz firmament. PERSONNEL: Morgan—trumpet; Hank Mobley—tenor saxophone; Cedar Walton—piano; Paul Chambers—bass; Billy Higgins—drums. A hard lineup to beat! Produced by Blue Note co-founder Alfred Lion, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. The selections: A Pilgrim’s Funny Farm; title tune; Is That So; Davisamba; What Not My Love [Proving once again that the record industry didn’t believe in proofreading, this title should read “What Now My Love,” derived from the original French ballad “Et Maintenant, Mon Amour?”]; Once in My Lifetime. About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often! PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely. FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
