Description: VINTAGE 1971 TYPEWRITER IMPERIAL 200 SERVICED NEW RIBBON Never buy a vintage typewriter unless you know the condition, it is difficult and comparatively expensive to get typewriters serviced or repaired. Serial number MC-1441576 which identifies it as a machine built in 1971, in Japan. The Imperial Good Companion range of portables have a long and good history. However by the end of the 60's the Imperial Typewriter company, then based in Hull England had become the subject of company mergers and had been bought by the Litton Industries group and manufacture had moved out of the UK by the early 70's, first to Holland/Portugal and then to Japan. There were significant changes in design to produce the very modern slim, light portable that we have here. Although quite a late portable, when manuals were declining in popularity, it was not one of the very cheap plastic machines aimed solely at the domestic market but remains a steel machine aimed at the lower end of the 'professional' market, but where an easy portable was needed. The machine is in really excellent condition throughout, almost as new, except for minor discolouration of the keyboard plastic (a common problem with these I am afraid). If you want a period typewriter which is still capable of serious use then this would be very suitable. It has been tested by an RSA qualified typist who was very impressed by it, and commented on the light touch and very even pressure. It is certainly good enough to be used as a present for a vintage enthusiast. This typewriter has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and serviced and checked throughout. A new ribbon has been fitted and it is entirely ready to use. Once cleaned the stamps proved to be in really excellent condition (there is a photo of the sharp typeface obtained). It has a standard QUERTY but as there are slight differences in details between makes you should check the photo of the keyboard. The machine has a relatively light touch, and has a touch weight adjustment on the left of the keyboard. The machine has facility for black/red/stencil and a brand new black/red ribbon has been fitted.The machine is in a nice pale blue, with very clear white keys with black symbols. The case is original light blue plastic and in good condition. with a good handle and catches.A copy of the original users manual is included. The machine, cased, measures 33cm x 30cm x 8cm and weighs 4.6 kg Replacement ribbons are readily and cheaply available on ebay. I would recommend that you look for the ribbons sold by Globe Typewriters who I rely on for reliable service. It will be carefully packed for transit.
