Description: This is a rare gold coloured metal badge from the now former national airline of Bulgaria, Balkan. Previously known as Tabso and a major passenger carrier in the 1970's. The badge has a long stick pin style fastener. The badge face is 2.3cm wide. The text on the badge face reads BALKAN in the Bulgarian alphabet. This pin dates from sometime after 1959 when this logo was first used. Balkan Airlines was Bulgaria's government-owned flag carrier between 1947 and 2002. During the 1970s the airline became a significant European carrier. The company encountered financial instability following the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. It declared bankruptcy in 2002.
