I believe he’s in Stanford-Tuck’s & Brian Kingcome’s biographies. He was described as a selfless combat pilot who was always in the thick of the fight, always willing to take risks to protect the less experienced pilots, and always willing to pass on his wisdom. He was 37 years old during the Battle of Britain, and as a station commander, could have easily not flown in combat. However, he flew an incredible 126 sorties during the battle, and continued to fly until he was lost in combat. In the 1930s, he was stricken with tuberculosis, but overcame it to return to the RAF. In many ways, his story parallels Douglas Bader’s. Beamish was truly an inspirational figure. Shelved in a non-smoking, climate-controlled home. Check my feedback - it's excellent.
